Continuing my memoir, ‘Nourishing Memories’, Chapter 5 begins with my first tutorial in theology at Oxford 1974, after changing from law, and continues with discussing theological lecturers and tutors between 1974 and 1977, worship and bible studies and friendships, culminating in my engagement. Continuing my memoir, ‘Nourishing Memories’, Chapter 4 begins with one dramatic week in Oxford in 1974  - when I was converted, met my wife, and joined a missionary prayer group - and continues with reverberations throughout the year amongst my family and friends. Published originally on Covenant.

Chapter Three of Nourishing Memories describes my 'gap-year', between school and university, in the British Army in West Germany in 1973 and relates how I reconnected with members of my regiment in Dorset 36 years later, when serving as Bishop of Sherborne.

Chapter two of Nourishing Memories explores the period from the age of five to eighteen at infants, primary and secondary schools, together with reflections on our local church choir, sport and friends in France.

Following my Preface last month, chapter one of Nourishing Memories explores birth, baptism, growth and prayer during my first four years, with wider ruminations.

In this first instalment of my Nourishing Memories, which will be serialized by Covenant, I provide various examples of the genre of memoir and explore reasons for writing and the temptations involved.
