The heavens declare God glorious,
In wordless verse, God luminous.
Each day and night dance all around
The whole wide world in silent sound.

God pitched a tent there for the sun,
The bridegroom beams a smile from room.
Champion, rejoicing, runs through field,
Nothing is hidden: all revealed.

Law of the Lord revives the soul,
Enlightens eyes, completes the whole.
Your judgements perfect, just and pure,
Commandments, guidance all endure.

We’ve turned away from grabbing gold,
Or tasting honey manifold.
Your servants poor, we long the more
To learn your precious, lavish law.

O cleanse our souls from secret sins,
Protect us from pretence that clings.
May words and thoughts be, in your sight,
Acceptable, our Lord and light.
