             Quilt

God takes material seriously,

    especially all those cast-offs.

God is an old sew-and-sew,

    who picks up bits and pieces,

    trims and shapes and stitches,

    embroidering the void.

Stuff happens to be helpful,

    enfolding warmth on bed or body.

God doesn’t jack it in -

    a Quilter not a quitter.
